The Factory at Franklin
is a complex of 11 depression-era buildings, with a total
of 250,000 square feet, which housed four different factories
over its industrial lifetime.
The buildings were built
for the Allen Manufacturing Company (stove manufacturers)
in 1929.
After Allen Manufacturing
went into receivership during the Great Depression, the Dortch
Stove Company (1932-1955), Magic Chef (1955-1959)
and Jamison Bedding Company (1962-1991) successively
occupied the site, which is on the National Register of Historic
Places.
The Factory is currently
being renovated by Franklin businessman Calvin LeHew
as a dining, retail, and entertainment center, retaining as
much as possible of the old factory look in each building.
